    Your solar, your home, the grid and your battery, live on the wall. You don't have to find your phone or open an app to check.

  • Use power while the sun is paying

    When the hub shows you sending power to the grid, you have spare. That's a good time to run the dishwasher or the washing machine, or charge your car.

  • See a problem in the live numbers

    If your solar stops making power on a sunny day, you see it in the numbers on the hub that same day. Without a hub on the wall, a fault can go unnoticed until the next bill.

  • Nothing more to pay

    There is no subscription and no account. You buy the hub once.

Ready for free power hours

Some electricity plans now include free hours in the middle of the day. The Australian Government's Solar Sharer Offer is one of them. Eligible households in New South Wales, South East Queensland and South Australia can sign up for three hours of free power every day.

RayHub helps you make the most of those hours. Set your free window once and the hub shows you when it's on. That's the time to run the dishwasher, put on a load of washing or charge your car.

  • See what you export and import. The hub shows how much power you sent to the grid today and how much you took from it. On most systems you can tap the kWh number in the corner of the screen to switch between them. The numbers come from your inverter's own readings.
  • Your rates, kept on the hub. Enter what you pay for power and what you get for feed-in. You can do it on the hub or from your phone. The same tap then shows what you spent and earned today. Power you use in your free hours is left out of what you spent.
  • A green banner when power is free. Set the start and end of your free hours, on the hour or the half hour. When your free hours start, a green "FREE POWER" banner flashes across the top of the screen. After ten minutes it settles and stays up until they end, with tomorrow's forecast beside the end time.

See what your solar should make tomorrow

Once your hub has learned your system, the corner of the screen shows what tomorrow should make, such as "Tomorrow ~21 kWh". That helps you plan the washing for a sunnier day.

Tap the middle of the screen to see how today is going. A ring fills up as your solar makes power, measured against today's forecast. If your solar beats the forecast, the ring starts a second lap in a darker orange. Tap again or wait half a minute to go back to your energy flow.

You don't need to know what panels you have or which way they face. Over its first few good days the hub learns how much your system makes for a given amount of sun. Until then the corner shows tomorrow's top temperature and the ring stays hidden.

All it needs is your postcode. There are no panel specs to enter.

  • It checks the weather for your postcode. Once a day the hub fetches the sunshine forecast for your area.
  • It learns from your own system. Late each evening the hub notes what your solar made that day, from your inverter's own daily total. It keeps learning from your most recent days.
  • It is an estimate. The hub puts the two together to work out what your system should make. A cloudy surprise or an inverter reading that is off will show in it.
  • Dims at night. Set the hours on the hub and it turns itself down overnight.
  • Automatic updates. New features and fixes arrive by themselves. We look after the software so you don't have to.
  • Finds your inverter. Give it your inverter's address once and it works out the brand by itself.

Charging your car from spare solar

Your spare solar goes to the grid for a few cents. If you have an electric car, it could be charging your car instead.

We are testing a way for the hub to do that. It watches your spare solar and tells your charger how much to use, speeding up and slowing down as clouds come and go.

It works over your home WiFi. No cloud service, no account, no extra box.

It isn't part of the hub yet. When it is ready it will be an optional software add-on for the hub you already have.

Built, now testing

  • You see it on your screen. While your car charges, it shows up on the energy flow next to your home.
  • It works with many popular chargers. Fronius, go-e and Wallbox all make chargers it can talk to. We don't list any charger as supported yet. If you want to check yours, look for OCPP in its manual or app.
  • You can use this with a Tesla car. Tesla's own wall charger is the catch. The Wall Connector gives the hub no way to steer the charging, unfortunately, so charging from your spare solar needs another brand's charger.

Up and running in minutes

You can do all of this yourself. An electrician or solar installer can do it too.

  1. Put it up near a power point

    It runs off a USB power supply. Mount it somewhere you'll see it every day, like the kitchen or the hallway, and plug it in.

  2. Connect it to your WiFi

    Pick your WiFi and type its password right on the screen. You can also scan the QR code it shows and finish in your phone's browser. There's nothing to install and no account to make.

  3. It finds your inverter

    Give it your solar system's address from the connect guide and it works out the brand by itself, usually showing your numbers in under a minute.

    Your inverter needs one setting switched on, called “Modbus”. On some inverters, like Sigenergy, you can do this in your inverter's own app. If not, your solar installer can do it in a couple of minutes.

RayHub reads 13 brands of inverter. Sigenergy is verified in a real home. GoodWe, Sungrow, Fronius, SolarEdge, Victron, Deye / Sunsynk, AlphaESS, Fox ESS, SolaX, Solis, SMA and Growatt are built and tested in our workshop. We mark a brand verified once it runs in a real home.

Whatever the brand, your numbers come from your inverter's own readings. If you have one of the workshop tested brands, you can help us verify it. Choose it when you register. Got something else? Tell us your inverter too. The brands people ask for most get added first.

Registering adds you to our interest list and costs nothing. We take no payment and no hubs are shipping yet, so it doesn't commit you to anything. When hubs are ready to order, we email you.

We use this only to email you about pre-orders. No newsletters, and we don't pass it to anyone else.

We keep your email, your name if you give one, your postcode, your inverter and EV charger answers, and when you registered.

Questions

Does it need the internet?

Only for the weather forecast, the time, update checks and its daily status report. Everything else happens on your home network. The hub reads your inverter over WiFi, so it keeps going if your internet drops out.

What data does it use?

The hub only reads your inverter and doesn't change how your solar system runs. Four small things leave your house, and none of them carry your energy data. The first three go once a day.

Status report. Serial number, firmware version, inverter brand and how long it has been running. We use it for warranty and firmware health.

Update check. The hub checks for firmware updates automatically, so updates happen on their own. You can turn them off at any time.

Weather request. The hub fetches the local weather forecast once a day, for the solar forecast on screen.

Time check. The hub asks a public time service for the time, so the clock is right.

Nothing else is sent. Your hub doesn't collect usage data or analytics.

Where do the numbers come from?

From your inverter. RayHub asks your inverter for its readings every second and shows exactly what it reports. It reads the same data your inverter's own app uses, so if a number ever looks off, your inverter is the place to check.

What happens if RayHub shuts down?

Your hub keeps working. It reads your inverter directly and doesn't need our servers to show your energy. Updates would stop. The forecast would stop too, because it comes through our service.

Is there a subscription?

No. No subscription, no account, no app.

Who installs it?

You can do it yourself. It runs off USB, so you mount it near a power point and plug it in. Your electrician or solar installer can do it just as well. Your inverter needs one setting switched on. If your inverter's app doesn't let you do that, your solar installer can do it in a couple of minutes.

My inverter isn't listed. Can I still get one?

Tell us what you have when you register above, or write to us at [email protected]. The brands people ask for most get added first. We mark a brand verified once it runs in a real home.

Is my data sold?

No. We only receive the four small things listed under "What data does it use?" above, and none of it is your energy data.

Who makes this

RayHub is made by two of us in Bellingen, on the NSW Mid North Coast. Cody is a licensed electrician and solar installer and runs Fernmount Electrical. Ethan spent years making video games and now builds software for charities. The first unit runs on Ethan's own home solar every day.

Bellingen Shire declared a climate emergency in 2019, hit its 2030 emissions target five years early, and now runs every council building and streetlight on 100% renewable electricity. It's also one of the few regions in New South Wales certified as an ECO Destination...

So we fit right in.

We built it because solar apps let us down. Every brand has its own app. Some are slow. Some want an account and a cloud login just to show you your own numbers.

We wanted the numbers on the wall, live, at a glance, with a nudge when there's spare power worth using.

RayHub reads your inverter directly over your home WiFi. There's no account and no cloud service behind it.

That's how we want our own homes set up, so that's how we built it.
